About the Crew at Peg's Cantina

Peg and Tony met at the University of South Florida as newly hired Ph.D.'s in Political Science in 1995. Earning their degrees in Iowa and Nebraska, respectively, the pair fell in love with each other and with Florida. The warm sunshine and beautiful water had a powerful effect on them. In early 2000, they both took jobs in Potsdam, New York at a small liberal arts college where they earned tenure in 2003. But the lure of the water and the sun was too much for the academic life and they both resigned, moved to Gulfport and opened their first restaurant.

Peg's son Doug oversees the beer and pizza operations at the restaurant. Having travelled extensively in Africa (by bicycle) and China and Hong Kong (by boat), Doug's travels have informed his selection of beer offerings on our menu. He has other creative interests besides the restaurant. He earned a college degree in Art with a concentration in ceramics from the State University of New York, Potsdam. He has put this skill and knowledge to good ends by creating a large selection of pottery which he sold at the restaurant and then donated the proceeds to Global Partners, a non-governmental organization working to improve the lives of Africans.
